Why the Environment You Exercise In Matters: The New Standard of Private Fitness in Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, there is no shortage of gyms. There are large membership clubs, boutique studios, hotel fitness centers, celebrity gyms, neighborhood gyms, and countless places filled with the latest fitness trends. But there is a significant difference between simply having access to exercise equipment and having an environment specifically designed around the quality of your training experience.

For some people, a gym is simply a place to work out. For others, particularly people with demanding professional lives, privacy, discretion, cleanliness, comfort, and professionalism are just as important as the workout itself.

That philosophy has been at the heart of Fedele De Santis Private Fitness since its founding in October 1997 in the West Hollywood–Beverly Hills area. Nearly three decades later, the concept continues to evolve.

What's changed
The Equipment Matters

Modern training requires modern equipment. Fitness equipment has changed dramatically since 1997 — new technologies, improved biomechanics, better ergonomics, and increasingly sophisticated training systems have transformed what is possible inside a professional training facility.

At Fedele De Santis Private Fitness, maintaining a high standard means not simply purchasing equipment once and leaving it there for decades. The facility continually evaluates its equipment and upgrades it as new technology becomes available — including reformers from Balanced Body for private Pilates work, alongside Life Fitness, Cybex, Woodway and True Fitness.

The philosophy is simple: if you are asking clients and trainers to perform at a high level, the environment should support that level of performance. And equipment should not only be modern — it should be exceptionally clean and meticulously maintained.

The standard
Cleanliness Is Not a Luxury. It Is a Standard.

Walk into many busy gyms and you immediately notice fingerprints, sweat, dust, equipment that has not been properly wiped down, weights left on the floor, and machines being used continuously by hundreds of people. That is not the environment Fedele De Santis wanted to create.

Because the facility is designed around personal training rather than general membership access, there is a completely different relationship between the client and the space. You are not walking into a crowded public fitness center. You are entering a controlled professional environment where the details matter.

—  The floor should be clean.

—  The equipment should be clean.

—  The bathrooms should be clean.

—  The towels should be fresh.

—  The rooms should be organized.

—  And the entire facility should feel cared for.

“The gym you choose is not simply where you exercise. It is the environment in which you choose to invest in yourself.”

Atmosphere
Temperature, Music and Atmosphere Matter More Than People Realize

A great workout environment should allow you to concentrate. That means the temperature should be comfortable — not freezing, not excessively warm. At Fedele De Santis Private Fitness, the environment is intentionally maintained around 71 degrees, creating a comfortable temperature for training.

It also means understanding that louder does not necessarily mean better. Many gyms use extremely loud music to create energy. But there are people who do not want to exercise inside a nightclub. At Fedele De Santis Private Fitness, music is intentionally kept at a comfortable level.

—  There is no need to blast music across the entire facility.

—  There is no need for people shouting across the gym.

—  There is no need for a constant soundtrack competing with the trainer giving instructions to a client. The goal is focus.

Culture
A Gym Without the Gym Culture

There is another side to the experience that is difficult to measure but immediately noticeable. Some people simply do not want the traditional gym culture — the phones and video cameras, people filming themselves while others train in the background, posing, unnecessary noise, or a constant feeling of being watched. They certainly don’t want their private training session becoming someone else’s social-media content.

Fedele De Santis Private Fitness was designed around a very different philosophy: privacy, professionalism, discretion and respect. It is a personal-training facility — not a traditional membership gym. There are no general memberships, and training is conducted with professional personal trainers. That distinction is extremely important.

The layout
Eleven Private Rooms. Eleven Different Training Environments.

One of the defining characteristics of Fedele De Santis Private Fitness — an exclusive fitness gym by design rather than by accident — is its layout. The facility contains 11 individual private training rooms, each designed and equipped to function as its own complete training environment.

Instead of one enormous open room filled with hundreds of people, the facility is divided into private spaces. One room can accommodate strength training. Another can be ideal for cardio. Another can accommodate Pilates. Another can be used for functional training, stretching, mobility, or specialized training.

The idea is that a trainer and client should have the equipment they need without constantly competing for space or waiting for another person to finish using a machine. Each room becomes its own environment — one of the reasons the gym can simultaneously accommodate different training disciplines while maintaining a feeling of privacy and calm.

Luxury Is in the Details

Luxury is often misunderstood. It is not simply expensive equipment or beautiful architecture. Luxury is walking into a bathroom and finding it immaculate. It is having a fresh, plush white towel available. It is being greeted by a friendly, professional staff. It is having equipment that works properly, being able to hear your trainer, and knowing that the person training next to you respects the environment.

That philosophy extends to the aesthetic character of the gym as well. Beautiful fresh orchids, carefully selected artwork, and displays featuring local photographers and artists contribute to an environment that feels more like a sophisticated private club, gallery, or boutique hotel than a conventional fitness center.

You are still there to train. But you should enjoy being there.

Who it's for
A Facility Created for Los Angeles Professionals

Los Angeles is home to some of the world’s most influential people in entertainment, business, medicine, law, fashion, design and the arts. The West Hollywood and Beverly Hills area, in particular, is surrounded by the film and entertainment industry.

Over the years, Fedele De Santis Private Fitness has developed an environment particularly suited to people whose professional lives require privacy and discretion — producers, directors, actors, writers, agents, managers, business owners, executives, physicians and attorneys. For someone whose entire professional life is built around meetings, production schedules, travel, deadlines and public exposure, going to a gym should not create another source of stress. It should be the opposite. It should be a place to disconnect.

Origins
The Story Began in 1997

In 1997, Fedele De Santis opened his private fitness facility in Los Angeles after developing his own vision of what personal training could become. His earlier experience in New York had exposed him to high-end private fitness environments and to clients who valued discretion, individualized attention and exceptional service.

After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, he saw an opportunity to create something that combined the intimacy of private training with the sophistication of a luxury environment. In October 1997, that vision became Fedele De Santis Private Fitness — and what began as a concept nearly three decades ago has continued to evolve ever since.

Looking forward
Nearly 30 Years Later, the Philosophy Remains the Same

Trends come and go. Equipment brands change. Training methods evolve. But the fundamental philosophy remains remarkably consistent: create a better environment for people to train.

The future of luxury fitness is not necessarily about making gyms bigger. It may be about making them better — better equipment, better maintenance, better privacy, better service, better design, better attention to detail. That is the standard Fedele De Santis Private Fitness has pursued since 1997, and it continues to evolve while maintaining the same fundamental belief that inspired its creation: personal training should feel personal.
